Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about parcel viewers and how to use our directory

This Directory

1 Why don't I see parcel lines on your Interactive Parcel Viewer Map?

Our interactive map shows jurisdiction boundaries (counties and municipalities) rather than individual property parcels. To view actual parcel boundaries and detailed property information, click on your area to access the official local parcel viewer.

2 Why are some states missing jurisdictions?

It's likely we couldn't find an interactive parcel viewer meeting our inclusion criteria. Jurisdictions vary widely in parcel data accessibility: some only offer printed maps, others provide downloadable PDFs, and a few require subscriptions for interactive maps. At parcel-viewer.us, we only include interactive parcel viewers that are publicly accessible without requiring login credentials. If you know of a missing jurisdiction's interactive parcel viewer URL, please share it with us.

3 How do you decide which data source to use?

Most jurisdictions have only one parcel viewer, typically government-managed. When multiple sources exist (e.g., government or educational institution viewers), we prioritize government sources but select the viewer offering the most detailed, up-to-date, and comprehensive parcel information. In cases where parcel ownership data is restricted – often due to state laws prohibiting public access – we still strive to link to the most informative parcel viewer available.

4 What if the parcel viewer link is incorrect or broken?

Government websites occasionally change their URLs or update their systems. If you encounter a broken link, please contact us so we can update our directory with the correct information.

Official Parcel Viewers

1 What is a parcel viewer?

A parcel viewer (sometimes called a property or tax map viewer) is an online mapping tool provided by local governments that shows property boundaries, ownership information, tax assessments, and other public records for real estate parcels. These tools help property owners, buyers, and researchers access official property data.

2 Why don't I see any parcel lines on the map?

Every parcel viewer can be different. Most display parcel lines by default, but some have this layer turned off initially. Look for a "Layers" menu (or icon) where you can turn on parcels.

3 Why don't I see any information when clicking on a parcel?

Most parcel viewers default to the tool needed to display information when you click on a parcel. With some, however, you need to first enable the "info" or "identify" tool (usually looks like i).

4 How accurate is the data?

The data comes directly from official government sources, typically county assessor's offices or planning departments. While generally accurate, property information should be verified with the appropriate government office for legal or official purposes. Nearly all parcel viewer websites display a disclaimer that the data is for reference only and accuracy is not guaranteed.

A Few Important Notes

About this directory: I'm not affiliated with any government agency - this is an independent resource that simply helps you find official government websites. All property data comes directly from county assessors, GIS departments, and state agencies.

About the data: Property information is provided by the government sources themselves. While these are official records, I'd recommend verifying any information with the relevant office before making legal or financial decisions. Parcel boundaries shown on these sites are for general reference.
